Provides risk assessments for adolescents where a sexual offence or sexual offending behaviour has occurred, and offers treatment for the individual and the family. Sibling incest cases are also accepted.

The sexually offending behaviour must have occurred after the twelfth birthday to be eligible for assessment. It is not necessary for the youth to be charged with an offence. Child welfare including Children’s Aid Services or Catholic Children’s Aid, or the police must have investigated the sexually offending behaviour or the youth must make a clear admission of responsibility for the incident. Youth who are before the courts for their offence must plead guilty before our assessment and treatment can proceed.

Following the model developed by the Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, an assessment is completed for children and adolescents.
A referral to a Fire Education Officer of the Hamilton Fire Department is an integral part of the model and can be arranged by calling 905-546-2424, Ext. 1380. The assessment format requires the participation of the child/youth and his/her parents or caregivers. The appointment lasts approximately two and a half to three hours.

All clients referred to Child and Adolescent Services through Contact Hamilton will be offered the Quick Access Service unless they have been referred for one of our Forensic Programs (fire setters, sexual offenders).
Within one week of receiving a referral from Contact, clients may attend on one of three different days, where they can meet with a therapist or a co-therapy team. The purpose is to provide timely "quick access" service, assess the client's situation and offer an intervention at the earliest stage possible. This single session is followed by recommendations that may include one of Child and Adolescent Services treatment programs and/or referral to other community resources.
Clients have up to five weeks after the referral is received to attend, without an appointment, either on: Tuesday or Thursday from 9 am - 12 noon (last session at noon), or
Wednesdays from1 pm-6 pm (last session at 6 pm)
If Treatment services following Quick Access are recommended, these services may include: individual therapy, family therapy, trauma treatment using the Intergenerational Trauma Treatment model, brief therapy, psychological assessments and/or parenting groups.
Clients must first call CONTACT Hamilton to be eligible for the Quick Access Service.

An intensive, evidence-based prenatal and infancy home visitation program for young, first time parents. This voluntary, free service is provided by public health nurses, beginning early in pregnancy (before 28 weeks gestation), and continuing until the child's second birthday. Goals include improving pregnancy outcomes, improving child health and development, and improving parents' self-sufficiency. Nurses provide support and education on health, child development, parenting issues, life goals and access to community resources.
Public health nurses are available to visit agencies and organizations, to further explain the program and the referral process.

The Assertive Outreach Team is a multi-disciplinary team that engages with individuals who are living with mental illnesses and are living in shelters or are homeless.
The case Intensive Case Management team is staffed by Public Health nurses who work with adults who are diagnosed as living with a serious mental illness, to promote the achievement of optimal health and well-being and to increase independence and participation in community life.
