Description

Offers outdoor summer camp program at Christie Conservation Area. Transportation by bus is available for all camp programs. Programs include:

Camp Chippewa (ages 6-13 years)

Located in the majestic surroundings of Christie Conservation Area this camp includes spacious playing fields, a beautiful wooded area for supervised explorations and a safe waterfront setting. Campers will have the opportunity to experience a combination of traditional day camp activities such as arts and crafts, swimming, archery, canoeing, wilderness/environmental, science pursuits and weekly themes.

Eco-Explorers (ages 8-11 years)

At Discovery Project Wilderness (Disco) campers will learn about their environment as well as the world around them through exciting activities and wilderness games. These activities will focus on nature education, and outdoor games that promote learning through fun.

Canoe Skills Camp (ages 8-13 years)

This program will provide campers with canoeing skills. Instructors will develop fun activities which will emphasize safety and the basic fundamentals of canoeing. Campers will also have the opportunity to develop other camping skills through traditional camp activities at Camp Chippewa. Children must wear life jackets while in canoe. Campers will receive a skills assessment at the end of the week.

Kayak Skills Camp (ages 10-13 years)

This program will provide campers with kayaking skills. Instructors will develop fun activities which will emphasize safety and the basic fundamentals of kayaking. Campers will also have the opportunity to develop other camping skills through traditional camp activities at Camp Chippewa. Children must wear life jackets while in kayak. Campers will receive a skills assessment at the end of the week.

Fundamentals Camp (ages 10-13 years)

Camp FUN-damentals allows campers to experience the magic of the outdoors and to learn valuable camping skills in a fun-oriented environment. It provides a wonderful occasion for campers to use their wilderness training and to spend time with new friends. Camping skills, such as an introduction to orienteering, and a variety of survival techniques will be introduced. During the sleep out evening, campers will have the opportunity to plan their own dinner, lunch and breakfast and share stories while a staff person cooks these meals over a crackling fire. These campers will enjoy a full camp program, including such camp classics as swimming, archery, arts & crafts, canoes and peddle boats.

Leadership in Training - L.I.T. 1 (ages 14-15 years)

A fun program designed for participants to acquire camp related skills (canoeing, archery and large group leadership) while learning how to work as a team player. Participants will receive an introduction to the YMCA and its core values.

Leadership in Training - L.I.T. 2 (ages 14-15 years)

This program enhances the learning of level 1. While canoeing, swimming and playing sports, participants will also learn the following through fun, creative sessions and hands on experiences in: team building, trust and support, healthy child development, behaviour management, assisting with daily camper routines, debriefing about placement experiences, individual planning an activity for Theme Day, planning and delivering 3 "new" and different skill building group games, communication, conflict resolution, safety awareness at camp and in programs, placement within 2 different camper groups.

Integration of special needs children may be accommodated and will be reviewed on an individual basis.
